My daughter is 3 1/2 months. I decided to switch to formula from breastfeeding for many many reasons. She is doing well with Isomil. But I didn't realize how hard it would be for her to deal with not having a breast to go to. I went cold turkey thinking it would be better just to do it now. If I'm gonna switch, just do it. No need to let it linger on... Well she's fussy and rooting me. She's drinking 4 ounces at a time. Some literature says she should have 5 or 6 at a time. Perhaps it's too soon in our transition to be concerned. Hopefully she ill adapt and things will get better... Any suggestions to make this transition easier for her?
I switched from breastfeeding to formula much earlier than 14 weeks of age but when I did I used a pacifier to place in my son's mouth when the bottle was finished and still held him in a position as if he was nursing. I fed him his bottle that way too close to my body with his cheek to my breast. I found it soothed me too because I felt so terrible about the switch. Good luck I know your precious one will be okay with the switch!
oh and don't worry about the amount, my son was drank 4 oz 6 times a day till he was three months. Just take your time and if you daughter starts smacking her lips when the bottle is finished time a little more next time. She'll let you know!!!!
