16 month old not walking yet

  • I have a 16 month old baby who is still not walikng yet.. I dont know if there is something going on with her that i dont know about or if she is just slow at it.. Should i contact a specialist or see what her doctor says.. Any tips/suggestions would be great.. thanks..

  • I'd give her doctor a call and set up an appointment to make sure everything is good. If the doctor thinks that everything is alright, there are a lot of kids who don't want immediately around a year of age. If she is getting around okay with scooting and crawling, she may not feel the need to walk quite yet. Hang in there and keep encouraging her when she pulls up and stands on things. Let us know how it goes!

  • kdycus21-I think Nurse Julie is right on with her suggestion to have you take your baby in to get her evaluated for walking.  While 16 months is certainly not unheard of, it is on the outer end of the range for walking.  There are a lot of things that make some babies walk at 12 months while others wait until-16!  Funnily enough some of them are social-she has learned that she can get carried if she doesn't walk to some babies when have some problems with their health.  I say make an appt and then let us know what you learn!

  • My son did not walk until he was 20 months old and no one was worried - including his pediatrician! But I would most definitely let your pediatrician know at your next check up. As long as your baby is developing normally, pulling up to stand, and cruising around, they may opt to wait and see if she gets it on her own...or they may have you see a therapist. Either way, it helps to have early intervention. Don't worry, but keep an eye on it and make sure you talk with your doctor!

  • Kdycus21-

I just wanted to check in with you and see how your baby is doing.  Wondering you had any assessment done and if so what the result of that was.Just thinking about you and would love an update!
