My daughter is 3 1/2 mos old. She's sleeping wonderful at night. 7-8 hrs straight with the help of a "swaddle me velcroe wrap" by Kiddoppotomus. I think this is considered sleeping thru the night for her age. Some babies may sleep longer, I'm not sure. I have two questions or concerns. 1. She's not taking very good naps during the day. Sometimes 20 min, the longest is 1 hour. But these naps are only when I'm holding her. If I lay her down she wakes up. Is she sleeping too long at night? Or is she not getting enough sleep? 2. Is that too long for her to be in a wet diaper at night. I coat her bottom in diaper ointment before bed.
my daughter is just shy of 6 months she will sleep about 6 to 8 hours depending on meny different things,
1. i have found Cherie (my daughter) sleeps better if she has better naps through out the day i try to get her to take at least 2 naps about an hour long if she wakes up i will put her strait back to bed
2. with Cherie i have found that she will let me lay her down if she is full but if it has been more then about 2 or 3 hours sence she has eaten she will have nothing to do with it.
3. when Cherie was about 4 months i started putting her in her crib with a binky a cold washcloth and a music paying i would sit there untill she fell asleep yes it was hard but it didn't take long for her to figure out how to put her self to sleep and then i wouldn't have to move her so she didn't wake up. i try to keep the noise down in the house tho so nothing wakes her up. and i also didn't have to go through her crying herself to sleep, i hate her crying.
3. no its not to long for her to be in a wet diaper, i had a problem with her peeing through her diapers at night and huggies makes a overnight diaper there ment for babys who sleep through the night i still change her when she wakes up but it holds a little more and keeps it off her skin bettter (at least i think it does), they only come in size 3 and up tho, no local stores near me carry size 3 i had to order them off line.
hope this gives u some ideas take care
That is certainly not to long for her to sleep at night. When my children were that age they just slept on and off throughout the day when they wanted to. At about 6 months they began napping at 9am and 1pm for 1 1/2 to 2 hours at a time. I put them to bed at 8pm each night. I also don't think that is too long for her bottom to be wet unless she is having rash problems. If she is, then you might have to change her at night. Usually a good coating of diaper cream is all it takes to keep their skin from breaking out.
Do you have a routine that she's used to? It sounds like your baby is sleeping normally at night, but a disruption in her schedule or lack thereof may lead to shorter naps. I know it sounds weird, but the more tired kids are, the more awake (and hyper when they're older) they get. Making sure she gets adequate sleep at night is one good step for taking better naps.
Also, this could be just a phase your baby is going through. My girls did this a lot. Every few months or so, they would throw something out of wack with their schedule or eating patterns, then get back to a state or normalcy just in time to change again. My little one is experimenting with not taking a nap at all now during the day, which is making our weekend days rather interesting. This could be something short-lived for you, as well.
