HI MY 3 MONTH OLD SON HAS A HORRIBLE HEAD COLD. DO ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT I CAN DO TO MAKE HIM FEEL BETTER. WE HAVE A HUMIDIFIER IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO.
Hi,
Always check with your pediatrician first, because 3 month olds are still very young and more fragile than an older child would be.
That being said, there are a few things you can safely do at home. The first and probably most helpful is saline nasal drops (just one in each nostril) and bulb suction (if your doctor is okay with it) about four times a day. It is usually most helpful to do this before meals and naps. You can do this more often than four times a day if you need to, but do not do it constantly or you might irritate his nose. Continue with your humidifier, but make sure the filter is new. Sometimes parents will be using an older humidifier with a yucky filter. Make sure that no one smokes around your baby. You can also place your baby in an elevated position (carrier, infant seat, swing) to sleep. This will help him drain better and enable him to sleep better. At this age it is wise to call the doctor if your baby has a cough or any fever >100.4 rectally.
I hope this helps!
