My baby is 6 weeks old and just started falling asleep every time he eats. As soon as I put him down he cries. I feed him again  and it keeps happening. I takes about 2 hours to get the whole bottle down. What can I do? I tickle his feet, call his name and burp him. Anyone have any other sugestions? This is very frustrating.

My son did this too.  We would strip him down so he wasn't warm and comfy.  I would also lift his arm up above his head.  It activated that startle relex and he would wake back up.  In the hospital the nurses would put a cold washcloth on his head to wake him up.

Good Luck!

How often is he eating? Many new moms mistakenly let their babies "snack" and therefore they are not really all that hungry. If he is eating every 3 hours or so...then that is appropriate. I agree that you need to try waking him up a bit more. Don't swaddle or bundle him and try burping him often so he doesn't go into a deep sleep. Also, you can try changing his diaper in the middle of the feeding to encourage him to finish the whole bottle. My guess is that since it takes 2 hours to finish a feeding, he is never really full....but he is also never really hungry.  If you are still having trouble, talk with your pediatrician to rule out any medical problems that would make him not want to eat large amounts  ( like reflux).

My son did this too, only he started doing it almost as soon as we brought him home from the hospital.  We too tried all the "tricks" to wake him up - none of them worked for us either.  All I can offer is to say that he will grow out of it (eventually).  My son is 5 1/2 months old, and still sleeps with his eyes closed most of the time - he is actually awake though, because he protests VERY loudly if you take the bottle out of his mouth.  I think he stopped falling asleep while eating when he was about 7 or 8 weeks old.  Good luck to you, I know how frustrating that can be.

From what they told me in the hospital this is very common in newborns. My little guy did it, i had to figure out what he didn't like and then do that. Example, he didn't care about cold washclothes or being moved he'd sleep right through it. But he didn't like being undressed or having his diaper changed so i would change his diaper part of the way through instead of before or after and if he was really sleepy strip him down a little until he woke up. He's only four weeks and he's already growing out of this. Good luck
