My 18 month old wants desperately to be just like his older brother and sister. He wants to sit at the big table, drink from a real cup and even spoon feed himself his cereal. While I love his independence, he is still too little to do everything by himself. Yet, every time I tell him no, he falls apart. What are some ways I can foster his independence without losing my mind in the process?
Really good question, but I think these opportunities need to present themselves on a day-by-day basis. It's hard to manufacture them. Once some instances occur where he can be independent yet not destroy the house or your emal or whatever else, then you can try to create those situations. It's a really good question, and as my youngest approaches 1 year, I need to be looking out for these situations too.
