I'm a first time mommy. My son is 10 months old and he holds his own bottle. He won't even let me hold it anymore! But now we are trying to encourage him to drink from a sippy cup. He uses it every once in a while, he prefers the soft spout over the hard one. But he really doesn't get the concept yet I think.
Do I encourage him, and if how? Or do I just offer it adn wait until he's ready for it on his own if he rejects it?
Whenever we want to encourage our daughter to do something she's still learning we'll use the words "I help". We'll say something like "Are you thirsty? I help you drink?" She hasnt quite learned to speak but she has learned that if we are offering to help it is usually easier. We wont perform all of the action whenever we help however, we'll partially open a container, or keep the cup from being tipped over by her but we try to let her do as much as possible on her own. She seems to enjoy the helpful, but not controling, hand.
